How Microsense solved for Secure OTT Casting in 60,000+ Rooms of the world’s largest luxury chain

Guests at the India operations of the world's largest luxury hotel chain increasingly wanted to watch their own Netflix, Prime Video, and other OTT accounts on the room TV, but the hotel had no secure way to let them. Microsense designed a Mi-Fi screen-casting solution: guests scan a QR code to pair their phone to their room TV, stream from over 10,000 apps, and have their data automatically wiped at checkout. Built together with unified channel management, PMS-linked messaging, and a single universal remote, the solution now powers more than 60,000 rooms across India, supporting over 1 billion minutes of connected viewing every month.

Background

Luxury hotels compete on service, amenities, and how personal a stay feels. As guests increasingly favoured streaming their own shows and movies over hotel-provided channels, the client needed in-room technology that felt as effortless as it does at home without compromising guest privacy or overwhelming staff with support requests. That shift in guest expectations made a secure, well-designed casting experience less of a nice-to-have and more of a competitive necessity.

The Challenge

Guests wanted the convenience of their personal OTT subscriptions on the big screen in their room, but the hotel had no secure, simple way to make that happen. Any solution also had to work for guests of every tech-savviness level, prevent data from lingering after checkout, and integrate cleanly with the hotel's existing systems rather than adding another layer of complexity.

Seamless tech integration, user-friendly design, ongoing maintenance, and data security all had to be solved at once, across a hotel chain operating at national scale.

The Solution

Microsense built a secure casting system, or Mi-Fi solution, that lets guests connect their own phone to their room TV in seconds. Guests scan a unique QR code shown on the TV, which pairs their device securely and exclusively to that one screen, a method that stops any other guest or device from accessing it. Once paired, guests reach popular OTT apps including Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Hotstar, and SonyLIV directly on the TV, with Chromecast 3rd Generation support built in for smooth streaming.

For Netflix specifically, guests can sign in with a QR scan or by entering credentials manually. When a guest checks out, the system automatically removes their credentials and watched history from the TV, so nothing lingers into the next guest's stay; guests can also clear this data manually at any time during their visit for extra peace of mind.

Beyond casting, the team unified every TV channel source be it IPTV, Digital TV, DTH, and cable set-top boxes into a single interface, so guests never need to switch inputs to find what they want. A single remote now controls the TV, OTT apps, and hotel amenities together, replacing the separate remotes guests previously juggled. Integration with the hotel's Property Management System (PMS) added personalised welcome messages, real-time billing access, and the ability for staff to broadcast messages to individual rooms, room groups, or the entire property. Guests can also check flight times, order in-room dining, and book spa or fitness facilities directly from the TV.
